What is the Re-Up Our Future Scholarship?

The Re-Up Our Future Scholarship is a scholarship program created to support young people from Englewood or those who attend school in Englewood who show resilience, academic potential, and community involvement. It aims to help students achieve their higher education goals and build their futures.

Who is eligible to apply?

Eligibility varies by scholarship type:

  • HBCU Scholars – Students attending or planning to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) who reside in Englewood or attend a high school in Englewood (60621/60636).

  • Neighbor Re-Up Scholars – Students who reside in Englewood or nearby neighborhoods and plan to attend a 2-4 year accredited college, university, or trade school.

  • Englewood High School Scholarship – Students from any Englewood high school who plan to attend a 2-4 year accredited college, university, or trade school.

Can I apply for one of the scholarships if I don’t live in Englewood?

Yes, students who attend an Englewood high school (Zip code 60621/60636) are eligible to apply for the Englewood High School Scholarship.

Students who live outside of Englewood and do not attend an Englewood high school may be eligible, particularly if they plan to attend an HBCU or have strong community service records. However, priority is often given to students from Englewood and nearby areas.

When does the scholarship application open, and what is the deadline?

Applications will open on May 5th and remain available until mid-June. After the application period closes, all eligible applicants will begin the evaluation process. Exact dates are posted annually, so be sure to check the R.A.G.E. website or contact us at sbutler@ragenglewood.org for the most up-to-date information.

How can I apply for the scholarship?

Applications can typically be submitted online through R.A.G.E.’s website. The process includes submitting an essay, proof of acceptance, community service background, and academic transcripts. Be sure to check for updates on the application portal for deadlines and specific requirements.

What criteria is used to select scholarship recipients?

Recipients are selected based on academic performance, community involvement, financial need, and a commitment to pursuing higher education.

Each application is carefully reviewed by our evaluation team, and in some cases, interviews may be conducted. Starting in 2025, interviews will be a requirement for all applicants who advance to the second round.

What are the scholarship award amounts?

Award amounts vary each year based on available funding. In the past, scholarships have ranged from $500 to $2,500, helping to cover tuition, books, and other college-related expenses.

Is the scholarship renewable?

The Re-Up Our Future Scholarship is typically a one-time award, but recipients continue to receive support throughout their college journey from their assigned mentor. This support includes financial guidance, mental health resources, and opportunities for employment to help ensure their success during matriculation.

What happens if I receive the scholarship?

Scholarship recipients will be selected and notified at least three weeks prior to the annual Re-Up Our Future Scholarship Luncheon.

Each recipient is required to participate in an interview with our Program Manager and mentors before final decisions are made.

During the luncheon, recipients will be celebrated and have the chance to connect with fellow scholars, community members, and local leaders.
