Make a profound difference in the life of a community college student on their path to success by volunteering just a few hours a month as a One Million Degrees Coach.
One Million Degrees (OMD) is an organization dedicated to providing comprehensive support to low-income, highly motivated community college students to help them succeed in school, in work, and in life. OMD Coaches meet with scholars in-person once a month on Saturday mornings during the academic year at one of ten community colleges in the Chicagoland region. In the Englewood community, residents and stakeholders can mentor OMD scholars studying at Kennedy King College.
One Million Degrees doesn’t just benefit the scholars, coaches have a lot to gain as well:
- Build valuable relationships with scholars.
- Be able to grow professionally and personally as you mentor diverse and talented scholars.
- Be inspired by scholars’ stories and perseverance.
- Expand your own professional network through connections with fellow coaches.
- Gain access to regularly scheduled coach breakfasts featuring continued training, networking, and sharing of best practices.
- Acquire an understanding of and insight into diverse communities across Chicago and its suburbs.
Coaches are a critical part of the One Million Degrees (OMD) community and are essential in providing the support and guidance that OMD Scholars need to achieve their personal and professional goals. OMD doesn’t only change the lives of students, it gives meaning to the lives of coaches.
