Featured Artist: Tonika Johnson

Tonika Johnson is a photographer from Englewood. She received her BA in Journalism & Photography from Columbia College Chicago in 2003 and her MBA from National-Louis University in 2005. Her photography project, From the INside, in its sincerest form, is an act of love to the community she was raised in and returned to as an adult. Being an “insider” of Englewood, she considers this project a self-portrait of Englewood’s spirit which, also serves as a counter narrative to the stereotype of Englewood residents being criminals or impoverished victims of violence.
