Streets for Cycling Plan 2020 SOUTH SIDE – Thursday, May 31st at Gary Comer!!

The City of Chicago has embarked on this plan to identify a network of bicycling facilities that will ensure all Chicagoans, from children riding to school to senior citizens riding to the grocery store, feel safe and comfortable riding their bike on the city’s streets. Come view the draft 2020 network! We listened to what you told us about where you bike, where you want improvements and what would encourage you to cycle. Now come see the draft network and continue the dialogue. Learn about possible street treatments and bike facilities, remaining challenges and next steps.

Free Summer Safe Haven Program in West Englewood!

Faith Temple Church is pleased to announce that will have a Summer Safe Haven Program Free to the community. The program will be a free program but with some of the trips there will be a small fee . We will concentrate on reading and vocabulary words for age appropriate groups. We will have cooking courses, modern dance and arts and crafts. The program is from 9 am – 3 pm and will be serving breakfast and hot lunch and ask that you are on time to pick your children up at the end of the day.

Registration will take place on Thursday June 21 and Friday June 22 from 3pm until 7pm each day. Please pass the word on. Faith Temple Church will take children from the ages of 3-18 years.

Grand Crossing Rail Project Community Meeting – May 17th!

You are invited to attend a Community Meeting hosted by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) regarding the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement for the Grand Crossing Rail Project.

Part of the Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency (CREATE) Program, the goal of the Grand Crossing Rail Project is to improve freight and passenger rail efficiency on Chicago’s South Side, particularly in the Englewood and Greater Grand Crossing neighborhoods.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide an overview of the project, review the project’s purpose and need for improvements, and obtain additional public input on the project, including its Purpose and Need Statement.

The information presented at this Community Meeting will be the same as that presented at the December 2011 public meetings. No new information will be available.

When and Where?

Date: Thursday, May 17, 2012

Time: 6:00-7:30pm, with Open House session from 4:00-6:00pm

Location: New Beginnings Church, 6620 S. King Drive, Chicago

In the case of a weather emergency, the Community Meeting will be held at the same time and location in June 2012, with the exact date to be provided in a follow-up notice.

A formal session with questions and answers will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. An open house will be held between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. where you can view an audio-visual presentation and project exhibits. The Project Team will also be available to discuss the project and answer questions.

The meeting will be accessible to persons with disabilities. Anyone needing special assistance should contact Josh Druding at (312) 335-0100. Persons planning to attend who will need a sign language interpreter or similar accommodations should notify the Illinois Department of Transportation at (866) 273-3631(TTY) at least five days prior to the meeting.

Black Women Raising Black Boys in Today’s World” forum on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 12-2pm at 6430 South Harvard. Noted Child Psychiatrist Dr. Carl Bell will lead this powerful and important discussion. He will be joined by mothers, grandmothers and young men who will speak their truth in the safe environment of our church.

We know it takes a village/community to raise a child. Our village is being called to help women to raise great fathers, sons, husbands and community leaders. Help us to encourage women to participate in this event. In future forums we will focus on raising exceptional African American girls. We know that the fates of both girls and boys are inextricably linked. Join the discussion!!
